Cliffview Chapel Baptist Church was started by missionary church planter, Doug Hounshell, and his wife, Tricia, in July 2005. Doug was raised as a preacher's kid in northeast Ohio and later received his Pastoral and Bible training in Ohio and Florida. Prior to coming to Kanab, he served as assistant pastor at three churches and as senior pastor at two different churches. Tricia was raised in a Christian home in Ohio, is a degreed and certified elementary teacher, and home schools their daughter, Hope, and cares for their infant son, True. She also leads the ladies ministries and serves shoulder-to-shoulder with her husband. They have been married for 20 years.

The first service was held in a hotel conference room in Kanab on July 24, 2005. In October 2005, the growing congregation moved to the Kanab Community Center. In May 2009, the church acquired and extensively remodeled a commercial building in a prime location in Kanab. Cliffview Chapel supports six missionaries families through Faith Promise Missions and conducts regular local outreach.
